+ MAKING IT EASIER TO BE ACTIVE

The way we do it: Healthy Families Invercargill takes a collective approach when it comes to helping create a community where the healthy choice is the easy choice. We are about thinking bigger, working together with the community, and activating leadership at all levels to drive sustainable, healthy change. It's about working with local leaders to find local solutions.

DOING IT TOGETHER

DISC GOLF

The disc golf course in Queen's Park was officially launched on November 19, 2017, and came after about 18 months of working with the Invercargill City Council, the Invercargill Youth Council, Disc Golf South, and community funders to get it across the line.

Since opening, it has become an extremely popular attraction in Queen's Park, with families and individuals alike flocking to use it.

LET'S PLAY SOUTHLAND

An initiative to get youngsters back into active play is steaming along at ILT Stadium Southland and Murihiku Marae

The Let’s Play Southland play pods are based at ILT Stadium Southland and Murihiku Marae and have been used hundreds of times by early childhood educators, the community, and whanau.

PLAYGROUNDS NEAR ME

Invercargill families may now find it easier to find ways of being active in the city’s playgrounds, thanks to a collaboration between Healthy Families Invercargill, the Invercargill City Council and playground safety equipment suppliers Numat.

UNDERSTANDING OUR COMMUNITY

One of the main roles of Healthy Families Invercargill is to understand our community's needs. To this end, we work extensively with community organisations and champions to gather the voice of the community, and community insights, which are then used to inform decision making processes at high end level. Below are examples of the work we have done in this area.
